TV MA Mean: “The Content is For Mature Audiences Only” which means it’s not suitable for individuals under 17 years of age. There may be carnal activities, bad language or violence being portray.

The difference between TV MA Rated Movies and R Rated Movies is that TV MA have worse scene of carnal activities or abusive languages than R Rating Movies, but they are almost the same content.

TV Parenting Guidelines Ratings

The TV Parenting Guidelines Rating is a television content rating systems in the United States that was first propose on December 19, 1996, by the United States Congress.

This happened due to the increasingly volume of explicit carnal content, graphic violence and strong profanity in television programs.

This came into effect 10 days after the proposal that was establish as a voluntary-participation system, with ratings to be determine by individually participating broadcast and cable networks.

Broadcasters and Cable networks started presenting ratings to their viewers before the content began in order to alert them about the content-type they are about to consume, that it belongs to one of the following categories:

TV-Y

This indicates that the content is suitable for children of all ages.

TV-Y7

This indicates that the content is suitable for children aged 7 and above. This content is appropriate for children who have acquired the development skills needed to distinguish between make believe and reality.

TV-G

This indicates that the content is suitable for all ages even though the content might not contain content of interest to children. The thematic elements portrayed in TV-G programs with this rating contain little or no violence, mild language, and little or no sexual dialogue or situations.

TV-PG

This indicates that the content contains materials that parents may not find suitable for younger audience. TV-PG rating may include infrequent coarse language, some sexual content, some suggestive dialogue, or moderate violence.

TV-14

This indicates that the content contains materials that parents would find unsuitable for children under 14 years of age. Parents are urged to exercise some care in monitoring this program and are cautioned against letting children under the age of 14 watch unattended.

TV-MA

• TV-R: This content is not that suitable for children under 17 as they will need to be monitored by parents’ while viewing as it may contain profanity, carnal activities and violence that may be regulated by guidance.
